Airbyte alternative: moving the data is the easy part
Airbyte moves data into a warehouse you own. SightShark does that too, then cleans it up and adds a report per client, alerts and a chatbot. With dates.
Open-source data movement / 4 minute read / Checked 2026-10-16
The short answer
Airbyte moves data. It lists 700+ connectors, a free open-source edition called Core and an MCP server for asking questions from Claude or ChatGPT. Its pricing page lists no dashboards, report templates or BI tools. SightShark also loads into a warehouse you own, then does three things Airbyte leaves to you: lining metrics up across platforms, building a report per client, and alerting you when a client's numbers cross a threshold or go missing.
What you get with SightShark
The numbers are cleaned up, not just copied
One name per metric, one type, one grain, one currency, across every platform. The work runs in SQL inside your warehouse, so you can read how any number was built.
Reports for every client, not one report
You assign a template per client. Each client logs in and sees only their own data. No second copy of the data per client.
Alerts for every client
Set alerts per client for a threshold, a percentage change, a period comparison or missing data. They arrive by email or Slack.
Ask questions in plain English
On Growth and above, the chatbot reads the same cleaned-up tables your dashboards read, using your own LLM key. One set of numbers for all of it.
What Airbyte is
Airbyte is an open-source data movement platform, self-hosted or run in its own cloud, with 700+ connectors, change data capture, scheduling and governance. It also offers an MCP server and an AI agents product. Its Core edition is self-hosted and free.
Everything below comes from Airbyte’s own public pages. Each point says which page and the date we read it. Prices and plans change, so check the date before you rely on any of it.
Airbyte Core is described as its free and open-source version, run in your own infrastructure. Paid plans are Standard, Plus, Pro and Enterprise Flex.

The detail
This is not an argument about ownership
Airbyte loads into your own warehouse, and Core is open source and free. On that point we agree with them.
The difference is how much of the job is covered. Raw tables in a warehouse are not reports. With Airbyte, lining the numbers up across platforms, building the reports and alerting on the numbers themselves are yours. Its alerts cover syncs, not the values inside them.
Someone has to own the dbt project
If you have a data team, Airbyte plus dbt plus a BI tool is a good stack. You will end up with something more flexible than any packaged product.
If you do not, a change in a platform's data can break a model, then a dashboard, and it may be the dashboard a client opens on Monday. We are not selling a better loader than Airbyte.
When to pick Airbyte instead
- You have a data team, or an engineer whose job includes owning a dbt project.
- You need connectors well beyond marketing: databases, internal services, event streams.
- You want open source and self-hosting, for cost, for control, or because procurement says so.
Questions people ask
Is Airbyte good for marketing reporting?
Airbyte is a good way to move marketing data into a warehouse, and it is not a reporting tool. Its pricing page lists no dashboards or report templates, and its alerts cover failed syncs, not the numbers. Its MCP server lets Claude or ChatGPT query your data. Lining metrics up across platforms and building reports stay with you.
How much does Airbyte cost?
Airbyte Core is open source and free to self-host. Airbyte Cloud starts at $20 a month on Standard, billed by data volume, and at $189 a month on Plus. Pro and Enterprise Flex are priced by capacity through sales, as listed on 16 October 2026. In a stack you assemble yourself the bigger cost is usually the person who looks after it.
Do I need dbt with Airbyte?
You need something that does dbt's job. Airbyte writes each source into its own typed tables, so any question that spans two platforms needs a layer giving every metric one name, one type and one currency. dbt is the usual choice, and it is a project someone has to keep working, not a one-time setup.
What does SightShark add over Airbyte?
The clean-up step inside your warehouse, a report per client from a template, alerts on each client's numbers (threshold, percentage change, period comparison, data missing) by email or Slack, and a chatbot that reads the same cleaned-up tables your dashboards read.
